I want to take my family (Mom, Dad, 3 kids ages 16, 14 and 11) somewhere for a 2 or three night getaway over Columbus Day and thought ';How about Penn?'; (We%26#39;ll be coming out of D.C., so we%26#39;re really more interested in southern PA,)
Anybody have a suggested destination? We%26#39;re not really interested in cities this time. We%26#39;d rather do a getaway in the wild somewhere (we love rustic lodges and cabins) and wouldn%26#39;t mind seeing the Amish country.
Any good ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Where to spend Columbus Day weekend?
How about Gettysburg? There%26#39;s history, museums, outdoor activities (try horseback riding through the battlefield), shopping %26amp; dining (casual and fine), and lots of countryside to explore with farm markets/fall festivals (Adams County is famous for its apples). Located within 1/2 hr of a few state parks, it%26#39;s much more ';small town'; than city, but there are many campgrounds (with cabins) and B%26amp;B%26#39;s on the outskirts of town if you%26#39;re looking to go very rural.
