Hello. I have three getting around town questions:
I will be arriving to Amtrak 30th St Station and probably staying in Old Town
1. Can you get to King of Prussia mall using public transportation? If not, do you have any idea how much cab $$ fare would be?
2. Can you get from the 30th St. Amtrak Station to Old Town using public transportation?
3. Can you get from Old Town to the Philly Art Musuem using public transportation? If not, any thoughts on how $$ cab fare would be?
Thanks for your help.
Getting Around Town Questions
Yes, is the answer to all three questions. Check out the SEPTA (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority) website at www.septa.org and select ';Plan My Trip';.
Q1. There is a bus from Center City to King of Prussia. Schedule claims about a 30-40 minute travel time, depending upon where in Center City you get the bus. Other TripAdvisor experts may have a better idea how realistic that is and whether there are better public transportation options.
Q2. There is a subway from 30th Street that goes straight down Market Street to the Old Town area. Take the Market-Frankford Line and get off at the 2nd and Market Streets stop.
Q3. Several ways to go from Old City to the Art Museum, but if your trip will be before September 4, the Philly Phlash is by far the most convenient. It is a special tourist trolley (one of those buses that looks like a trolley) that operates summers only (9/3 is the last day) and services 19 locations most of interest to visitors. Fare in $1 each time you board or you may be a day pass. The Phlash stops in Old City and at the Art Museum.
If your trip will be after Sept 3, you still can get to the Art Museum via public transit. Check out the SEPTA site. There are several ways to get to the Art Museum, including a bus that you can pick up at 2nd and Arch, taking the subway to 15th Street and walking down the Benjamin Franklin Parkway or taking other buses. Don%26#39;t know what cab fare would be from Center City to the Art Museum, but likely under $10.
Getting Around Town Questions
You can take SEPTA bus # 124 or #125 from 13th %26amp; Market to get to the King of Prussia Mall. It takes a good hour one way, it can take more depeding on traffic. Try to avoid rush hour traffic times. A cab would be pretty expensive. I took the #125 bus and it was perfect.

Bus Route 125:

1. Yes. The 124 or 125 bus. Fare is about $2.50 each way. Don%26#39;t take a cab. Too expensive.
2. Several ways. You can either take a train to Market East at 10th %26amp; Market (direct connection and free after Amtrak), or take the Market Frankford El from across the street, eastbound to your choice of stops. 2nd Street is the heart of Old City. 5th is also good.
3. If the weather is nice, you can walk (about 2 miles, flat, and scenic). The Phlash is good, or you can take the Route 38 bus from 5th %26amp; Market. Make sure to ak the driver if he goes by the Art Museum. Some 38s don%26#39;t.
Thanks everyone for all of your help. I am starting to get a better feel about doing this trip -- we%26#39;re going down over Labor Day weekend. Debating about whether to go down Friday night (it would be late, though) or early Saturday morning (my choice). I think we%26#39;ll probably do Amtrak from NYC to Philly and try the Omni. All I need is a good map and w/all of your help I am all set. Thanks.
One note.. Personally speaking, I would skip King of Prussia. It%26#39;s nice, but its basically a big Mall with not much else to recommend it and few stores you could not find in NYC.
Instead, spend a little time checking out the local delicacies at the Reading Terminal Market and some extra time maybe in the historical district.
Loonbeam -- Thanks for all recommendations. I moved to NYC from Texas about 1 1/2 years ago and just really miss the ';mall'; experience. I know it%26#39;s stupid, but I do. However, I don%26#39;t think I%26#39;m going to end up going to King of Prussia. We want to do Reading, but have heard about how crowded it gets. I%26#39;m getting excited about our weekend trip -- it%26#39;s our first venture outside of the city. Take care.
Reading isn%26#39;t worth the trip. Honestly, the best outlet mall is nearer to you- Woodbury Commons at the NYS Thruway and Rt 17. If you need a non-city shopping fix, then K of P mall will do it, but the reality is that most of the stores there can be found in town (except for the department stores), and in NYC.
Reading has really gone downhill - there are entire outlet malls there that are ghost towns now. Definitely skip it - Woodbury is vastly superior. I like King of Prussia, but it will take a good chunk of your trip to get out there and back.
I think the discussion was centered on Reading Terminal...
Reading vs. Reading Terminal. Two different things... Reading Terminal yes,Reading no.
