We are arriving at the Pittsburgh airport Friday at 3:30pm and our friends will be waiting for us in Monroeville - they said it was about 40 minutes from the airport.
We will stay in Monroeville Friday night and then go with our friends to the Hampton Inn in Pittsburgh Saturday late day. They said there is room for us to hop in their car at this point. We will stay until Monday moring when we will need to either drive our renatal car back or take a taxi to the airport.
Not sure how easy it is to get around Pittsburgh in a rental car. The only times we really need to drive would be form the airport to Monroeville on Friday afternoon and then from downtown Pittsburgh Hampton Inn back to the airport Monday morning.
Would we be better off just to use taxis for these two trips?
Should we rent a car or take a taxi
On a Friday afternoon at rush hour you will be sitting in traffic for a looooooong time either way. You may be better off looking at the bus schedule - the buses have their own thruway and don%26#39;t sit in parkway traffic. At least on this side of the tunnel - I%26#39;m not sure about the Monroeville side.
Is there any way your friends can meet you downtown Friday afternoon? You can take the airport shuttle into the city.
Should we rent a car or take a taxi
Taxi fare to/from Monroeville would be very expensive. I would guess in the $60-$80 range. Personally, I would rent-a-car and keep it with me. I think you will find a car useful to have in Monroeville.
If you don鈥檛 want the hassle of having a car, there is probably some place that you could drop it off in Monroeville. I think that Enterprise and Budget have rental offices there.
As another alternative, perhaps you could make arrangements with a limo driver for transportation to/from the airport or even just to Monroeville. (I鈥檝e used First Class Limousine in the past, but there are other reputable providers out there.) From Downtown, you could always take the 28x bus to the airport instead of a limo (as another poster suggested). I鈥檝e found the 28x to be very reliable. See www.portyauthority.org for the 28x鈥檚 schedule.
P.S. -- I also agree with the other poster; It will take you much longer than 40 minutes from the Airport to Monroeville on a Friday afternoon.
