Trip Review 8/5-8/8

Just returned from Lancaster with my husband and 2 1/2 year old twin sons. We stayed at the Best Western Revere and absolutely loved it. We had a family suite and my sons loved running from one end of the room to the other. As we had been telling them all week before we left that we were going on vacation, every time we pulled into the parking lot they called it their ';cation house';. They were excited about eating breakfast in the restaurant in the lobby. Every time we left or entered the hotel they would say ';door open'; and the automatic doors opened for them. They thought they performed magic. As they are picky eaters, the breakfast buffet was perfect for them. They ate waffles and fruit salad every morning.

Our first day we got a late start leaving NY and didn%26#39;t arrive in PA until after 3. We took the 5pm train at the Strasburg RR. The boys absolutely loved it as did my husband and I. The scenery was great and the boys loved looking at the trains in the gift shop. After the train ride we went to a local pizzeria in Strasburg (I cannot remember the name) diagonally across from the Strasburg Creamery. The pizza was good (and is one of my kids%26#39; favorite things to eat.) We wanted to go for ice cream at the Creamery, but my kids were tired and cranky from the long day of traveling as well as the heat.

The next day after breakfast we headed out to the Hands on House Museum. My kids loved it, especially the exhibit where they were able to build cars and race them down a track. They also enjoyed shopping in the supermarket. It is an amazing museum, and had my kids been a bit older, we would have spent more time there. Their attention spans are such that we cannot spend an entire day in one place. After the boys napped we headed out for lunch and ended up at The Waffle House. The boys enjoyed their waffles but that%26#39;s about all i%26#39;d recommend there. After that we went to the Train Museum. The boys loved it, especially the room where they were able to play with lego trains, geo trax and Thomas trains. Then we hit a few stores at the Rockvale outlets and because of the extreme heat, returned to the hotel for a swim. Dinner that evening was at Cracker Barrel. Again, with picky eaters, dining out is tough, especially when they are tired and in unfamiliar territory. They did yell out cracker barrel each time we passed the restaurant for the remainder of the trip.

We headed out to Dutch Wonderland on day 3 of our trip. The park was great, but unfortunately it was the hottest day (heat advisory). After a few hours, we were all hot, tired and sweaty. We picked up Pizza Hut from across the street and took it back to our hotel room. We returned to Dutch Wonderland after the boys napped and spent a couple of hours in Duke%26#39;s Lagoon. That was great for all of us. Then, as my kids asked for pizza again, we stopped at a pizza place/italian restaurant called Paradiso, on Lincoln Highway just east of the Revere. The food was pretty good.

Our last day we headed out to the Crayola Factory in Easton before heading back to NY. The factory was nice and each paying customer gets a marker, box of 4 crayons and a piece of modeling clay. My kids were a tad too young to appreciate all there was to do there, but for what they did, they enjoyed it.
