Please help, I%26#39;ve read limited reviews of the Comfort Inn and the Days Inn on Banksville road. Are they both dumpy or is one better than the other?
I thought it might be better budget wise and location wise to use one of these hotels on our next trip there but I need real advice from the people who know...
Please advise. Thanks.
Banksville hotels
Both pretty dumpy in my estimation. How about the Springhill Suites on the North Shore. Rates should be reasonable if the Pirates or Steelers are not home.
Banksville hotels
Thanks for your reply, I gave up on them. I booked springhill suites west mifflin. I figured most motels in general aren%26#39;t really all that great but I did read one of them went through some remodeling. I thought I%26#39;d give it a shot but with no real time reviews of current conditions(pool, carpets, bedding) I wasn%26#39;t willing to take the risk.
So we%26#39;ll see how the Springhill suites measures up, it%26#39;s just as close to family and stuff we want to do while we enjoy our favorite city, HOME...
Can%26#39;t wait to watch the Steelers, visit Kennywood and sit down with a cold iron and have a smoke up the bar LOL.
Well the gentleman or Lady who said the Comfort inn was ';dumpy'; is entitled to his opinion..but i stayed there in April and 1st week of may.
I was worried when I read the comments and stayed 2 nights earlier at another hotel after getting in early..
The Comfort on banksville rd has had a makeover and the manager at the end of my trip accepted %26amp; conceeded the critism was fair.
But there is a hourly bus outside and a 3 mile cab ride to the Hilton Downtown and I found the hotel to be of great value.
I am coming over in May 08 and looking for value and the Motel6 in crafton gets good reveues...I am just concerned about the Public transport..though Crafton%26amp; Idelewood have T Stations..
Enjoy Pittsbugh :-)
So, Keith...is the Comfort Inn still dumpy even after the remodel?

Well at $45 pn weekly rate in April this year..it wasa good deal and so handy for public transport...though buses are limited around evening...though it;s only 2,5 miles to the steelers..rates have now gone up but as a UK citizen maybe our expectations are not as high as those of the States.
The Manager was very sincere and is making every effort to turn the place around..and succeeding in my opinion...with a decent free breakfast buffet offering waffles, cereals and pastries -I found it great value,,,unlike some places where there is coffee and 2 types of pastries(and when they%26#39;re gone,,they%26#39;re gone!).
The Days Inn about a mile down towards Downtown is a better class of hotel and has an indoor heated pool with an Eat %26#39;n Park next door and is only about 1 mile from the Tunnel to Downtown and a short cab ride from the Hilton...
Both these hotels are in a decent area and much cheaper that Downtown...though because of the weakness of the $ against the Euro and Pound Sterling, the Hilton has some great deals on.
But back to budget...One place I would recommend and has had good reviews ,and i have stayed 3 times is,,,Red Roof Inn at Pittsburgh South.
It%26#39;s in Robinson Township and about 9 miles from Downtown and is on the route of the Airport Flyer 28X bus that goes from the Airport to Downtown and makes a stop near the hotel.Rates are about $64 pn and the rooms are big and excellent value--Bob Evans over the Rd and Denny%26#39;s next door...The bus takes about 25-30 mins to get to Downtown and is an express making few stops and runs both ways till late with fares costing $2,50 e/way.Although there is talk of cut backs with public transport..i cannot see them altering this much..if at all as it%26#39;s very popular.
iI%26#39;s a good way to avoid traffic..i do not drive in the USA..and the Mall at Robinson is very good for shopping too.
Enjoy....:-)
