Philadelphia without a Car

What hotels under $200/night are accesible without a car from the Airport ?

Planning trip for mid October so I guess the Phlash is out.

Philadelphia without a Car

If you plan to stay at the airport, all of the hotels are accessible without a car and just about all of them offer free shuttle service. If you want to stay in Center City or Old Town, you definitely do NOT need a car.

Two easy options from the airport to Center City/Old Town are: (1) taxi (understand it is about $27 plus tip, but Philly Experts have the latest info); and

(2) the train (R1 line) that departs every half hour from each of the airport terminals. The train will stop at 30th Street (30th and Market Streets), Suburban Station (16th Street a block north of Market), and the Market East Station (around 11th and Market). Cost is $6 or $7 one way, depending upon time of day.

The three stations mentioned will put you within walking distance of almost all of the hotels and, for those a bit too far or in the event of bad weather, the taxi ride will be short.

tylerarb,

It%26#39;s not Old Town, it%26#39;s Old City.

travelFolks,

Is there some reason you want to stay near the airport? It is really an inconvenient location, despite the transit means tylerarb has suggested. You should be able to get something in town for under $200/night. Philadelphia is VERY walkable, and if you stay in town, you will have instant access to pretty much everything. If you stay at the airport, you should give yourself at least an hour to get into town (shuttle, waiting for the train, 25 minute train ride)- plus you have to factor in the cost of the train, which is not cheap at $6.00-$7.00/person each way.

Any hotel in Center City is easily accessible by train from the airport.

owlyn,

Thanks for the reminder. Funny thing is that I know it is Old City (grew up in the area), but have more recent experience with Alexandria, VA. Silly mistake.

TravelFolks seemed positive about staying at the airport (I often do only because it is more convenient to family in the Media area). Certainly agree with you that anywhere in town would be far more interesting and convenient and definitely where I would stay for tourism trip.

Thanks everyone. Our trip is unusual. After arriving at PHL we will need to get to Chadds Ford, PA to begin a 7 day bike trip. After returning to Chadds Ford we would like to see Philadelphia for 2 days. We won%26#39;t have a car and we will be dragging along our bikes so we thought we could stash them at the hotel at airport, tour Phili and then catch an early morning flight home.

If you are biking from PHL to Chadds Ford, it won%26#39;t be pleasant... Most of the roads are busy (truck routes) with no shoulders, and drivers here are not bike friendly. Have you check with the Philadelphia Bicycle Club for the best route?

We begin and end our bike tour in Chadds Ford, no biking to Philadelphia. After this we want to go to Phil before we fly home. Our bikes fold into suitcases. Thanks for your concern.

Well, it sounds like staying by the airport may be your best bet. FWIW, there is a Marriott connected directly to the airport terminals. I don%26#39;t know what their rates are, though. It looks to be nice.
