Downtown hotels

Arriving 27th Aug for 3 nights from the UK any advice on inexpensive downtown hotels........trying to avoid the big chains.....am I being naive

Downtown hotels

I%26#39;m afraid there isn%26#39;t much in the way of Mom n Pop hotels in Pittsburgh.

When we go into the city for a night on the town, we usually stay in the Hilton. It%26#39;s nice - clean rooms and centrally located, and less expensive than the Westin or Omni.

You can try calling the Edison, but I%26#39;ve never been there so I can%26#39;t vouch for either it%26#39;s location or appearance.

Downtown hotels

Thanks very much for that.

If you%26#39;re not dead set on staying in downtown, you can probably find a much better rate in a hotel closer to the airport area.

The airport is only 20 minutes from downtown, and although Pittsburgh%26#39;s public transit system isn%26#39;t THE best, you can find out of the hotels have a shuttle service to downtown.

I know there is a shuttle to the airport.

And if you were planning on renting a car, you%26#39;d get free parking at one of these hotels, as opposed to paying $20US or more per day for having a vehicle at a downtown hotel.
