We have friends arriving from the UK during Christmas week to stay w/us in NJ %26amp; they would like to visit the Poconos for a few days. They have envisioned snow/sledding (not necessarily skiing) %26amp; shopping. The (2) men in the group would be content w/a pub for TV/beer. Can anyone suggest a good location? What about either renting a cabin in that area or a clean hotel? No one needs fancy but decent/clean accomodations that don%26#39;t cost a fortune. I looked @ the Wolf Lodge thinking it would offer amenities but @ $600+ a night, cannot do this! Thanks for any advice.
Pocono during Christmas week
You may want to look into the Settler%26#39;s Inn in Hawley - classic country inn with a quaint bar %26amp; fine dining restaurant (full order-from-the-menu breakfast included in room price, and it was incredible). You can upgrade to the breakfast %26amp; dinner plan. Their website offers pictures of each room - rooms 201 %26amp; 216 are really ugly, but many of the others (I peeked in the doors while I stayed there!) are gorgeous.
Also, although I%26#39;ve never stayed at the Inn at Jim Thorpe, those I know who have loved it. A bit more reasonably priced than the Settler%26#39;s Inn and again, breakfast is included. Both a restaurant and pub are located on the premises. Guests report ghostly activity in many of their rooms!
Both hotels are near ski/sledding/snowboarding venues and the Tannersville shopping outlets.
