We are going with a group to see Wicked at the Kimmel Center on a week night at end of August. There may be 20 - 40 of us (adults and kids). We are seeking a restaurant close by that will not cost a king%26#39;s ransom. We were hoping for Upstairs at Varalli, but they are closed for summer vacation. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

What is your ideal price range? Are you opposed to going to a chain?
Two places nearby that are great at handling larger parties are Maggiano%26#39;s %26amp; Italian Bistro. However, they are both chains, so I am not sure if you are against that. I have been to that Maggiano%26#39;s several times with larger parties and they always do a very good job. All the food is served family style.

What are hoping to spend per person?
Moriarty%26#39;s and McGillians can both accommodate large parties in their upstairs rooms, but you would probably need to reserve ahead of time.
You might also try Buca Di Beppo on S 15th St, another chain, but a good one that specializes in dealing with groups. Food is not bad but still reasonably priced.
Also for an informal dinner check out Fox and Hound Smokehouse at the corner of 15th and Spruce. They specialize in ribs and other meats. Very big modern room.
I was going to recommend Maggiano%26#39;s as well. They are a chain but they don%26#39;t have a chain-like feel.
Any number of restaurants in Chinatown have group seating as well, you will need to call ahead. Unfortunately, Joe Poon hasn%26#39;t reopened his restaurant for meals yet. Most Chinatown restaurants are fairly affordable.
The Italian Bistro (also a chain, I know) on Broad Street used to regularly handle groups of 30-40 for us on a call ahead basis.
With some more ideas as to food type and budget, we might be able to narrow it down better.
Thanks, everyone, for your great responses! I think we%26#39;re going to try Italian Bistro. It seems to suit our needs. Hope to try out the other recommendations some time, too!!
Enjoy your time in Philly!
