Here%26#39;s a cheesesteak update folks:
I was in the RTM today and Rick%26#39;s is operating but it%26#39;s unclear for how long. Another vendor told me the question of Rick%26#39;s lease renewal is in litigation. How true to Philadelphia!

Rick's at the Reading Terminal Market
Well, when Rick is finally forced out, Tony Luke%26#39;s will be the replacement, which to me is a good idea.
Rick's at the Reading Terminal Market
Tony Luke%26#39;s is ok, but honestly they are more of a roast pork shop than a steak shop, and DiNics is already in there for roast pork..
It was noted on the news last month that Tony Luke%26#39;s would design a menu that would not compete with any other vendors in the Terminal.
If that%26#39;s the case, why Bother. The pork is the best item on TL%26#39;s menu, their steaks are average, above average at best.
Food comparisons aside, I just don%26#39;t like the way Rick%26#39;s is being treated by RTM management. If any of you feel strongly about this there is a petition at Rick%26#39;s that you can sign.

From what I have read, Rick%26#39;s balked at signing a lease that management was phasing in and was similar to what all other tenants leases were being converted to. This included a duty upon the tenant to disclose sales, as management wants rents to reflect sales-you make more you pay more-rather than just rent based on square footage.Supposedly, this will help the smaller, more narrowly focused tenant and keep a good mix of stores/shops in the Terminal. Rick%26#39;s has been there a long time, thru thick and thin, and that ought to count for something, it seems to me. All of this over a food item that no one should eat more than once every 2 years or so ( as I tell myself when ordering my weekly ';wit';.)
I don%26#39;t mean to sound negative, but Rick%26#39;s has possibly the worst cheesesteak I%26#39;ve ever had. I only had it once, and the bread was not good quality and they were skimpy on the meat. But then again, I think Pat%26#39;s is one of the most over-rated institutions in the City. I think it%26#39;s a shame that when people come from out of town, they choose these places for name only. You could go to just about any corner hoagie or pizza place and get a better cheesesteak.
I tasted a Rick%26#39;s steak a few months ago and thought it was a good steak. Not the best I%26#39;ve had, but definitely not bad.
