We plan to visit Fallingwater in early Oct as part of 2-week PA road trip. We want to drive the Laurel Highlands Scenic By-Way, visit FW and spend the night in the area. Looking at Summit Hill Inn or Chalk Hill Lodge. Summit Inn is more expensive, has mixed reviews and not much found on Chalk Hill Lodge. Any opinions on these two, or other suggestions. Want unique to the area, not chain. Thanks.
FallingwaterThe Summit was once one of the grand hotels on the east coast. It fell on hard times but has made a nice recovery. It has a beautiful view as well as a pool, restaurants etc... I%26#39;ve also stayed at the Chalk Hill Lodge. Its ok, nothing special. Good value for your money.
The good news is that you will LOVE Fallingwater!!! It is spectacular!!! Also nearby is Kentuck Knob, another of FLW houses.
2 week road trip in PA ought to be fun!
FallingwaterThank you, psu86. I was hoping someone was familiar with both these places. I talked with Summit Inn and they were very nice so I%26#39;m thinking we%26#39;ll book there and can have a nice dinner there also after a full day of enjoying the area. We%26#39;re there the first week of October, may be too early for foliage, but we are really looking forward to our trip.
The area is beautiful. Stop by nemacolin woodlands, its a first class resort w many good restaurants. Make sure you stop at ohiopyle falls. quaint little town about 3 miles from fallingwater. The falls are beautiful!!!
I just want to say ditto to PSU86 (I by the way am PSU class of 76)
Do go to Fallingwater. Read Donald Hoffman%26#39;s book about it between now and then, a very good account of the building and F L Wright%26#39;s approach to its design. The big book by Edgar Kauffman Jr. is good, too.
It is the most famous house in the world. And rightly so.
Do also go to the Hagen House, Kentuck Knob--which is more of a ';typical family'; home, if any house by Wright can be called ';typical';. Be sure to wak out to see the view.
If you have time consider going to Laurel Caverns. Make sure you have a sweatshirt--it gets cold down there.
See this for more http://www.laurelhighlands.org/
And for a first hand F L Wright experience, consider staying at the Duncan House, a FLW designed house--see this link:

We are also planning a trip to Fallingwater. We are coming from Illinois and meeting our sons, who will be coming from New York. Since we only have 3 days in the area, where should we stay and what should we see? They would like to play golf one day. Can you recommend any good public courses in the area? Thanks!
