Little Dilemma about Hershey . . .

I posted on the hershey forum, but thought I might get some good answers here also-

My husband and I are going to Hershey and I hate thrill rides. Because of this, we are hesitant about soending the money and it being a waste. My husband has not been to Hershey since he was little. Is there enough to do at the park to make it worthwhile for someone like me that hates thrill rides?

Also, Are the gardens, zoo-american and museum all on the same property (within walking distance to go to) or do you actually have to travel from one to the next.

Final question- is the automobile museum of america extremely close to hershey park? Could this be tacked on to the day or does the above just about cover a day?

Also, do you think Friday is a poor choice of a day for Hershey?

Thanks!

Little Dilemma about Hershey . . .

Hello - I guess it depends on what you like to do. A visit to Chocolate World is a good enough reason for me to visit Hershey ;)

They just built a ';boardwalk'; at the park that opened this season - have no clue what that is like. They have a dolphin show and another place that usually has some sort of music show. These are included in admission. The zoo is right by the park - not sure about the museum but I think it is. Have no clue about the automobile museum. You can also take a trolley ride through town that is cute - you can catch that at Chocolate World. I think there is plenty to keep busy but that depends from person to person! I think lines can be long though! I really couldn%26#39;t advise on a good day to go. We either go closing weekend or during Christmas. Have fun if you go!

It sounds like you%26#39;ll be spending a lot of time just walking around. Too expensive for me. Zoo America is right next to the park as is Chocolate World. The Antique Automobile Museum is about a mile or two away from the park on Rt 39. If I can make a suggestion. We go to a park called Knoebels Grove Amusement Resort. It%26#39;s located on Rt 487 in Elysburg, PA. It%26#39;s about 1-1/2 hours north of Hershey, near the Town of Bloomsburg. The don%26#39;t charge admission, have free parking and free entertainment. Knoebels has been rated the top family amusement park in the US. It is NOT a theme park like Hershey, Six Flags, Busch Gardens or Disney. Take a look a their website. (www.knoebels.com) Maybe you can stop there on the way back to NY. It%26#39;s off of I-80.

We just came back from Hershey. We went for Thursday preview and Friday. If you buy your tickets you can go in 2 1/2 hours free and then go back the next day. Use your parking stub for free parking the next day. We got our tickets at Giant and saved $11 each. I don%26#39;t do rides but my husband and boys love the thrill rides. There are some rides you can do like the ferris wheel, skyway, reeses extreme, monorail, train. But if your husband does the thrill rides bring a book because you will be waiting. Thursday night was not crowded at all and they got in most of the thrill rides. Friday was crowded but not overly. The new water area was the most crowded. It is alot of money but if your husband is going to enjoy the rides it may be worth it just to go along. There are plenty of shops, and places to eat. The shows at Hershey in my opinion are not worth seeing but that again depends on your taste. The zoo is included in your admission and it is easy to get in from inside the park. We have never gone in so I can%26#39;t tell you if it is worth the time. You will need to drive to the automobile museum. If you go don%26#39;t forget to go into chocolate world, its free but it closes before the park so do that first. It%26#39;s probably worth the trip but not to do it all the time. Lots of hills so be prepared to get a workout. Let us know if you decide to go. Enjoy!

BKG: I hate thrill rides also. Hershey Park days in our family usually entail me standing by myself holding the sweatshirts, purses, water bottles, etc. while everyone else rides the rides. I only went along because my husbands company used to give us tickets for free. They stopped that benefit, so I stopped going. No way I am paying 46 bucks to stand around holding everyone else%26#39;s stuff. IMHO there is not enough to do if you dislike rides.

P.S. Friday would not be my first choice of days to go. My pick would be Mon - Thurs.

We were there 5 years ago with two small children. They went on the kiddie rides, but we did hardly anything. My husband and I do not like thrill rides, so there were few things for us to do. I remember going on the train and seeing a dolphin show. I will never go to Hershey again. It was a big waster of money for us. Disney is so much better.

We did not see the zoo as it was 92 degrees and we didn%26#39;t want to walk around there.

We just return our 1st trip to Hershey with a 5yr old. We spent 2 days and found it to be plenty. The 1st day we dedicated to Chocolate World and touring the area (Hershey Inn/Lodge, etc). The 2nd day was our busiest. We visited the the car museum (about 3hrs), Herhsey Gardens (about 4 hrs) and HersheyPark (about 5hrs) in one day. It wasn%26#39;t bad since the 1st 2 locations were at a very leisurely pace and not crowded at all.

Quite frankly, if you don%26#39;t like to ride thrill rides, HersheyPark is not worth the full admission. We knew that we%26#39;d be watching our son ride kiddie rides, so we waited until 5pm and got in for 1/2 price which allowed my husband time to ride a couple of coasters also. Hershey Gardens and the car museum both require short drives, but are well worth the effort.

On our way back from Niagara Falls we stopped at Hershey because we had seen it on the travel channel and we just thought it was cute. We got lost leaving from Hershey to Lancaster but we were able to see places we would have never seen. The experience is unique and you can say you%26#39;ve been to Hershey, but it%26#39;s not the place I would visit again unless it was on the way to or from somewhere.

I agree that the park is very expensive for what you get, especially if you don%26#39;t like rides. We were just there on Saturday and the crowds were horrendous. On the other hand, Hershey Gardens are beautiful and well worth the admission price of $10. We usually cover them in 2-3 hours.

Have you thought about Chocolate World? It%26#39;s free, right next to the park, and has a neat ride about making chocolate. You might also be interested in the trolley tour of the town.
