I will visit Pittsburgh at the end of september ( beginning of october) for a conference downton pittsburgh.
Since I am on a budget I would like to avoid spending too much money.
I am looking for an hotel located in the suburbs and with reasonable access to the public transportation.
Anybody can help me out ?
Pittsburgh, for a conference
Welcome to Pittsburgh! Our city is wonderful in many ways, however public transportation is not of the quality you may be used to in other big American cities.
Couple of suggestions, without knowing how much money you consider too much. If you can get a good price on a downtown hotel on Priceline, take it. There are no horrible hotels downtown, so you%26#39;re unlikely to go wrong. Downtown is a good area for theatre, ballgames and high-end restaurants, but there is not a huge amount of nightlife.
Or, you might consider a hotel in Greentree, many of which run shuttles that will take you downtown. It is suburban and there will be absolutely nothing to do after hours. The South Side Holiday Inn Express also runs a shuttle that can take you downtown, and there are plenty of bar and restaurant options nearby.
Other neighborhoods that will offer plenty of bus service to downtown are Shadyside and Oakland.
Some airport-area hotels are inexpensive, but honestly, I don%26#39;t know how easily you%26#39;ll be able to get downtown on a bus. Maybe someone else can pitch in on this? Good luck!
Pittsburgh, for a conference
Thank you ! You are very kind and your reply is very helpful.
I will consider you suggestions.
Some of the airport area hotels may also have a shuttle to downtown. You best bet would be to find a hotel that is within your budget and location area and then email them to see what they have as far as transportation. I%26#39;m sure they%26#39;d be able to give you information on the bus lines and where to pick up the bus if they don%26#39;t provide shuttle transportation.
You can usually get a good deal at the Greentree Radisson through Priceline.
There is a new Hampton Inn located in the Strip District, downtown Pittsburgh within walking distance of the convention center and also lots of restaurants. Hampton Inn is typically pretty affordable, so maybe look into this.
Pittsburgh is a wonderful city to visit. As a previous poster said, though, the public transportation probaby isn%26#39;t what you are used to in Tokyo. Here is a link to the public transportation system:

We prefer to stay out by the airport at the Pittsburgh Airport Marriott:

It is out of the city, and they provide some shuttle service to downtown (though it is not the best). It is located near the Robinson Town Center shopping area that has some great restaurants.
I booked the best western near the parway center ( at 85 $/night) since it seemed a good value and fairly close to place where my conference is held (station square). The say they have a free shuttle to downtown, and (I think) I found a few bus-lines (36-38) that serve the area.
Let me know if you think it%26#39;s a mistake or if you think I can find something better.
Anyway, thank you all.
I think you got a good price for your stay. There isn%26#39;t much in that area since the Parkway Center Mall is pretty lame, but there is a KMart store with a Little Caesar%26#39;s Pizza.
But since you are only 3 miles from Station Square and they have a shuttle, I%26#39;d make sure to have my meals close to your conference. I think there is still an Olive Garden in Green Tree, but with the development at Robinson, many stores and restaurants have moved out of Green Tree altogether.
Thank you, it%26#39;s reassuring !
I wonder if the area is safe enough though.
Anyway, I will be downtown (or in the west end) all the time, so it shouldnt be a problem to get a meal there.
Oh it%26#39;s safe, not a problem. It%26#39;s just that the mall was constructed so quickly, and rather poorly, that newer areas have become more popular.
Enjoy your conference and have a safe flight!
