We are staying at Pine Log Motel west of Galeton for one night in two weeks. How far is this from Wellsboro? Would like to see the canyon and check out some little shops while we are there. Any other towns we should stop in? Coudersport is near our motel, I think and lists shops there. Also, will probably have to stop at the Harley Shop in Galeton. Any food recommendations? Wish we could stay longer, but only Saturday to Sunday. Any suggestions appreciated.

Galeton is about 22 miles from Wellsboro via US-6. We, too, are planning our first trip to the area this fall, so unfortunately, I can%26#39;t yet help with any recommendations!

philadelphia need help

We have family visiting from Italy and they would like to see a few things in Philadelphia. Liberty bell, Market street. Rocky statue, the steps rocky ran up and pat cheesesteaks. I have no idea where any of these places are. We will be arriving Sat afternoon Where do I start?????

Well, ok.. First, while not far away, none of these are necessarily close.

The Liberty bell pavilion is near 5th and Market, in the historic district.

Market Street - there is nothing special on Market street.

Rocky steps - the art museum at the end of JFK parkway Rocky statue is at the bottom of those steps, unless they moved it again.

Pat%26#39;s steaks - South Philly. I don%26#39;t subscribe to the hype, I%26#39;d rather have Jim%26#39;s or a DiNic%26#39;s pork sandwich, someone else will have to help with getting there.

You mentioned sat afternoon. Are you coming in JUST for the afternoon? That may make timing really difficult. Let me know and I will try to plot a path. Also, driving in or train?

By Market Street did you mean the Italian Market? That is 9th Street, mainly around Washington Avenue to Chrsitian Streets. Saturday afternoons the Italian Market is absolutely bustling. Eat somewhere in the Market and skip Pat%26#39;s.

If your relatives did mean Market Street I assume they meant in Old City where there are numerous historic sites. If you go to that area then you can get a delicious steak sandwich at Campo%26#39;s on the 200 block of Market.

Jersey girl looking for a PA wedding

Getting married hopefully November 2008. Everything in Jersey is way overpriced and was hoping the Harrisburg area might be more affordable. I have been to the area and loved it! I don%26#39;t need specifically Harrisburg, towns in the vicinity are fine too. What are average prices per plate and does anyone have reviews/recommendations of a noce but affordable venue for a reception and/or ceremony.

I don%26#39;t know about Harrisburg but the Eden Resort in Lancaster is a beautiful place and the room they have the wedding in is very pretty. Food at their restaurants is pretty good. Don%26#39;t know what the prices would be maybe their website has info. about wedding packages. All I know is that they do alot of weddings. Congratulations and Good Luck!!

The MRS %26amp; I were married at the Harrisburg Civic Club, but that was 11 years ago and its changed ownership since our spectacular event there. So, I don%26#39;t know that I could recommend it today.

The Allenberry Resort Inn %26amp; Playhouse in Boiling Springs (just a little south of Harrisburg) is a beautiful setting for a wedding. Here is their website: http://www.allenberry.com/weddings/index.html

Unfortunately I have never eaten at Allenberry so I can%26#39;t give you any info on the food. The venue is beautiful though!

Oops, just realized your wedding is in November and the ceremony sites at Allenberry are outside. Allenberry has the Carriage Room for receptions, maybe you could also have the ceremony there as well.

Consider the Cameron Estate Inn, which is in gorgeous Western Lancaster County away from all of the tourists, and in the ';Harrisburg area'; that you mention. Near by is the Groff%26#39;s Farm restaurant, world-famous, which could be a rehearsal dinner venue.

I don鈥檛 know if they do non member weddings or not but the historic Donegal Presbyterian Church is right next door to the Cameron Estate Inn; it dates back to the 1730s and is charming.

If you aren%26#39;t tied to the Harrisburg idea, you may want to consider the Pocono Mountains, especially in November - everyone comes here in October to see the trees, but November is when everything actually peaks. There%26#39;s a B%26amp;B in Bear Creek, the Bischwind - a gorgeous tudor-style mansion that offers weddings %26amp; even accomodations for guests. Wedding details are posted on their website. The inn sits beside a lake and there%26#39;s a waterfall a few hundred yards from the front door - they used to have horses/riding on the premises, not sure if they still do.

Where in Jersey are you? And how big is your wedding? Our dghtr got married last Sept--when doing our searching we learned if you have the wedding in am %26amp; do the reception as a ';luncheon';, not as a ';wedding,'; the price goes way down. We found this at The Washington Crossing Inn (Wash. Crossing, PA). The only ';drawback'; if you call it that, is you book your own florist %26amp; cake. Big deal; we found them pretty fast. The same ones the restaurant uses anyway.

And the food offered is pretty much identical to dinner. And the facility is the same--same tablecloths %26amp; settings, wait staff, gardens, etc etc.

Another thing that brings the price down is people drink much less in the middle of the day, and you can keep the bar limited to beer/wine with a champagne toast %26amp; no one will care. And those who have a bit of a drive home can leave at the end of the reception %26amp; not be tired with a late night drive ahead of them.

Some Late Suggestions?!

Sorry this is late, but I was wondering if anyone could give suggestions/help with our itinerary. My boyfriend and I will be going to Philly for my birthday this weekend. Our flight arrives Friday night 9/21 and will be staying in Philly until early evening of 9/23.

We will be staying in the Charter Club Hotel (we%26#39;re college students and on a budget). On Saturday morning we are going to see the King Tut Exhibit, Mutter Exhibit, and the Penn Museum if we can fit it in.

On Sunday morning, we are going to see the liberty bell, independence hall, constitution center, franklin%26#39;s grave, and possibly something else (our flight leave around 8pm).

Do you think we will be able to fit these sites in the two days? Any other suggestions for things to see? What are good and reasonable restaurants nearby? What types of transportation do you suggest? Do you suggest the hop on hop off buses or just trolleys, the train, etc.

I%26#39;m not familiar with the Charter Club so I am not sure where it is, a quick google search did not pop up a location. Post where it is and I%26#39;ll weigh in on transport and food.

Your itinerary is ambitious, but doable, subject to what times your Tickets are for King Tut. Not going to fit much more in.

Sat night, you might want to check out Eastern State Penitentiary for Halloween, its pretty cool and near the museums you are visiting.

I do not know the ';Charter Club'; either - possibly could be Club Quarters? If that is the case, check out Tria for eats as well as the Continental Midtown - both are close by and reasonably priced for food. Also, what kind of cuisine do you like - that will help us make suggestions.

I agree, your schedule does seem a bit ambitious, but it can be done.

October vacation ideas?

We are heading to Pennsylvania for a week or so in October and would like some help deciding where to go in the southern or central part of the state.

Specifically looking for a clean hotel/motel far enough away from shopping malls and overwhelming touristy areas for peace and quiet but close enough to visit them if we want.

Does anyone have any ideas?

October vacation ideas?

The Adams County area in south central PA is gorgeous at that time of year - mountains, rolling farmland and qualint little historic towns, Gettysburg being the most famous and popular of them. Plus, Adams County is known for it%26#39;s apples, so farm markets %26amp; harvest festivals abound. Since you don%26#39;t want to stay in a touristy area, you might consider Fairfield, Orrtanna, New Oxford or Hanover - all within close proximity to Gettysburg (anyone traveling to this area of PA should make a point of visiting) and the Amish farmlands of the Lancaster area.

One recommendation I can make is the Hickory Bridge Farm in Orrtanna, about a 10 minute drive from Gettysburg. Very rural country setting with accomodations in both an old farmhouse %26amp; streamside cabins - beautifully decorated %26amp; reasonably priced. They offer family style dining on the weeknds, too, and I believe breakfast is included in the room price. They do have a website if you want to check it out.

New Jersey Transit Trenton to Philly

Hi,

Coming in from New Brunswick to Philly Saturday morning. Exploring 2 options: Go to trenton transfer to the Philly 30th street station and take SEPTA to our Hyatt Regency Hotel on Columbus.

OR

New Brunswick to Trenton To SEPTA. This way is less time on the NJ train.

I have no idea which one is better. I don%26#39;t care necessarily about the money or amount of walking. My main concern is the hassle. Which would be less confusing and less of a hassle?

New Jersey Transit Trenton to Philly

Pretty much the same thing I think.

From Trenton station, its the R7 I think into Philly. Takes you right into Market east Station (or Suburban, either will work for this).

From there, can grab the Market Street Line eastbound to 2nd street, its a pretty short walk to the Hyatt from there.

The NJT to Trenton. Get on the SEPTA R7 line. Get off at Market East and take a cab or walk about 1 mile. Market East is the closest station.

Definitely do NJT- Trenton- R7 route. It is pretty easy %26amp; shouldn%26#39;t give you any problems.

Worst Days Inn Ever in Scranton, Pa

My Family and I were travelling to West Virginia, from New Hampshire. We made reservations at the Days Inn Scranton, for August 8, 2007. We wanted to spend a night somewhere in between. We found this hotel through Hotels.com.

Unfortunately, our drive took forever to Scranton. We did not arrive till 3:30am. We were so tired, our children ages 4 and 7 were tired and cranky. All we looked forward to was climbing into bed. My husband went in alone to the lobby to check us in. My sons and I waited for about 15-20 minutes, then decided to go in and see what was going on. Although, the door to the hotel was wide open and there was music playing in the office behind the front desk, there was nobody to find, except for my husband of course. No desk clerk to check us in. By this point, my children are freaking out because they just want to go to sleep. Myself and my husband, are getting more and more impatient. Wondering where the heck the desk clerk is. This goes on for another 20 minutes. Finally, we decide to leave. My husband had seen on the desk his name on a sheet of paper with our reservation information, so he wrote on this, that we waited for 40 minutes to check in, and that we were going to another hotel. On the 9th, we called and the front desk clerk told us, we could of just checked out. He then told her that we never checked in and why, and that he wanted to make sure we were not charged. She was rather snotty and told him, ';well, that desk clerk was sick and we would have to call back to speak with her manager and have proof that we stayed at a different hotel. We ended up staying an extra night at the hotel we were at (The Marriot%26#39;s Residence Inn - which was fantastic, the best customer service ever), so my husband went on the 10th to speek directly with the manager. She did not appologize. Just made excuses for her desk clerk being sick. She did write a note saying that we did not stay with them. But again in it trying to excuse her desk clerk%26#39;s absence.

What has followed has been a very big pain! We have gotten charged. We had to contact Hotels.com. They tried to call the manager at Days, but was always told she was busy or not in. My husband tried calling, and always got the same thing. Everytime the desk clerk was very rude. Once, my husband said he didn%26#39;t mind waiting. And, the desk clerk told him that her manager said that they would not put him on hold and either he gave them our phone number or they would hang up on him. He ended up doing this several times and they never called back.

It was very frustrating. We really could not believe how awful those people are, and the manager was at the Days inn in Scranton.

That%26#39;s interesting. So what you%26#39;re saying is the clerk went home, and there was no staff there? Geez, that%26#39;s probably not legal!! I actually liked that hotel (stayed there a few months before you). I found all the staff pretty bright, cheerful and helpful. That%26#39;s when they%26#39;re there, of course :-).
