Bars? Music venues? Play houses? Be there in 2 wks!

The boyfriend and I will be there from the 7th through 12th of Sept.

We%26#39;re staying at the Studio Station Square, and we will have a car.

Driving from Detroit, and knowing the misconstrued attitude people have towards our city, we want to make sure we don%26#39;t leave Pittsburgh feeling that way.

We like lounge bars, nothing that attracts clubbers or flashy people. More into the artsy-type of atmosphere, but we also don%26#39;t mind the older college crews that still like to have a good time!

Can you help me figure out what bars, strips, venues, local theater, we should check out? AND which to avoid??

Much appreciated - D

Welcome to Pittsburgh! To start out with, you might want to check out www.wyep.org, they have a concert calendar and arts and events calendar that will lead you to the kinds of things I think you%26#39;re looking for.

You will probably enjoy the South Side, Lawrenceville and Squirrel Hill neighborhoods.

I would also greatly recommend you check out the Chiluhly exhibit at Phipps Conservatory, and the Strip District on Saturday mornings/afternoons.

Some websites:

The free newsweekly, The Pgh City Paper, is probably your best bet to check for what%26#39;s going on when you%26#39;ll be here. There%26#39;s really a lot to do in Pgh at any given time and the City Paper comes out on Wednesdays so you can read it online before you get here: %26lt;http://www.pittsburghcitypaper.ws/gyrobase/index%26gt;

The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh website also has a lot of great up-to-date information about restaurants, art and music venues and neighborhoods. It%26#39;s at %26lt;http:/www.clpgh.org%26gt;. You just have to navigate around a bit to find everything. Some of the more interesting galleries they have links to are The Warhol Museum on the North Side, The Silver Eye Center for Photography and The Mattress Factory on the South Side, Concept Art Gallery in Regents Square, and The Pgh Glass Center in East Liberty.

The Carnegie Mellon Univ theater dept is excellent so if you want to see local theater, be sure to check if they have any plays running while you%26#39;re here. %26lt;http://www.cmu.edu%26gt;

And, last, I think Brillo Box in Lawrenceville is one of the more interesting, laid-back music venues-- They post their calendar here: %26lt;http://www.myspace.com/brilloboxevents%26gt;.

Have fun.
