Hotel in Phili or outskirts??

Will be in Philadelphia for 2 nites and also want to stay out near Lancaster for one night. ( Am drving from Buffalo and thought a hotel near the Amish countryside would be nice to break up the drive) Do you recommend to stay in Phili and drive to all the attractions ie Liberty Bell etc, and Cheesesteak restaurants or would it be better to stay outside of the city. In either case, what hotels do you recommend??

Stay in the city and skip the Amish country. There%26#39;s sooo much to see in the city, two days barely gives you enough time to hit a few highlights. You can walk everywhere- you won%26#39;t need or want your car. Park it and forget about it.

Thank you so much for responding so quickly. I just love these forums, they are sooo helpful.

Do you recommend any place in the city that might be centrally located to all the attractions

Dozens...

My quick picks are the Hyatt Penns Landing, the Holiday Inn Historic District or the Residence Inn. All of them are within walking distance, it just depends on what services and price range you are looking for.

If you still want to do Lancaster, leave early on the day home and stop there, there are not a lot of great hotels near Amish country itself, and you can hit the highlights in less than a day.

Centrally located will depend on what attractions you want to see. I think you may be underestimating how much is here. Anyway, if you mean you want to see the historic district only (note: there are many historic sights and places of interest outside the historic district) then I agree with Loonbeam%26#39;s suggestions.

I also agree that with a short visit you should skip Lancaster.

If you give me your exact dates of stay, number of people in your party and your price range, I will try to find a hotel for you that fits your needs. Have you ever used Hotwire or Priceline? You can often get great deals in Philly via these vendors.
