Independence Brew Pub - Closed

Shame, they had good food and beer in a decent location!

From Philly.com....

SIGNS ON THE DOORS of the Independence Brew Pub (1150 Filbert) say ';Closed Temporarily,'; but it seems that the popular watering hole is shuttered for good.

Frank Keel, spokesman for the Redevelopment Authority, which owns the building, says Independence Brew Pub, and its parent company, GS Capital LP of Wayne, were ';severely delinquent on rent,'; owing about $800,000. The company made ';intermittent payments,'; which explains why it hadn%26#39;t been closed sooner. The rent dispute dates back nearly five years, Keel says.

Uh, scratching my head here-how can a semi-public agenecy (the Redevelopment Authority) let a fairly small space tenant get behind $800,000 in rent? Any one else know a small business owner $800,000 in the hole for rent. Just wondering.

Apparently they kept making catch up payments as can, until it spiraled out of control. IBP had a fairly large space, the rent could have been $100K per month....

Good news is that Dock Street will be reborn in West Philadelphia (700 Block-South 50th Street)

That is interesting news about the rebirth of Dock Street - have missed it since it closed!
