What can we see during a 6 hour layover?

Hi,

My adult daughter and I will be arriving around 8 am at the Philadelphia airport next week. Besides the Liberty Bell which we visited years ago, where can we go easily by public transportation? We want to include a visit toTerminal Market.

We should get back to the airport by 2 pm.

Thank you for any suggestion.

You may have a 6 hour layover, but depending on where you are going to and from you may have a lot less time than you think. Minimum, you will have to get back to the airport to go through security again.

What day of the week will you be traveling?

Do you have international travel?

Hi Lynn,

Our flight to Greece doesn%26#39;t leave until 4 pm.

Thanks,

Martha

Lynn,

We are leaving on a weekday.

Martha

I hear the mall inside terminal B has some neat shops... I doubt you%26#39;ll really have time.

If you don%26#39;t need to collect luggage (AND your flight is on time), you might be OK. For a 4Pm flight to Greece, you need to be IN the airport by 1 PM, which means in line for security at 12 to be safe.

You could grab the R1 from the airport to right near the RTM and back, it runs about every 30 mins in each direction. That%26#39;s probably all you will have time for.

If a miracle allows, check out either the Constitution Center or Franklin Court.

Hi Owlyn and Loonbeam,

We will be traveling lightly and only have carry on luggage. Do you know if there are lockers at the airport to store them?

If a miracle does happen, how would we get from the RTM to Constitution Center or Franklin Court? Otherwise, it%26#39;ll only be the RTM and the shops at terminal B. :-)

Thank you both for your advice.

Martha

There are no lockers at PHL, nor at pretty much any airport in the US that I am aware of now due to security restrictions (I may not have the most current info on this, last flight from PHL was several months ago.)

The walk from RTM to the Const center are is about 10 mins at a good pace right up Market st, just aim for the river, if you are looking at city hall, Wrong way!

The National Constitution Center is on Arch, not Market. Just exit the market on the Arch Street side and go right. The first interesction you come to should be 11th Street. If it%26#39;s 12th, turn around and go the other way. The Constitution Center is on Arch between 5th and 6th.

If the weather is good and you%26#39;d rather be outside then do go to Franklin Court. You can enter on the 300 block of Market Street by the B. Franklin Post Office. Part of the museum is outside at ground level and part is underground.

Another option is the Atwater Kent Museum on 7th Street just south of Market. This small gem is the museum of the history of Philadelphia.

Regarding returning to the airport, we travel frequently have never heard anyone say that you have to be past security 3 hours before your flight.

Lynn

Another good option close to the Reading Terminal Market is the African American Museum in Philadelphia at 7th and Arch. It%26#39;s an affiliate of the Smithsonian.

Lynn

Yikes, no luggage storage facilities! I guess one alternative is to check the luggage in, but I would think the airline would have a higher probability of losing it with the long layover. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks,

Martha
