Dinner at Farnsworth worth it? And other dining questions?

We (hubby, 13 year old son and myself) will be in Gettysburg for four days. Haven%26#39;t fully decided where to eat, but we are definitely going to eat lunch at Dobbins house one day, and I was thinking about eating dinner at Farnsworth? What do you think---good or bad?

Also, any other nice places to eat? I was thinking about lunch at the Lincoln dinner, but then I read some really bad reviews, so I%26#39;ve crossed it off my list. I%26#39;ve heard some good things about The Pub and Spiritfield Pub and Fare and also Momma Ventures. Any thoughts on these places? Or anyone else have any suggestions. And oh, we%26#39;ve even thought of driving to Maryland for a day, and we love seafood. Not sure about going to Maryland, but it%26#39;s a possibility.

Luckily my 13 year old son enjoys different foods and is not picky, and if it helps we love all kinds of different foods.

Good choice on the Dobbins House, we ate downstairs in the tavern and had a great meal. We did not eat at the Farnsworth, but did eat at the Pub where we had another good meal. We also went to the Cashtown Inn which was a nice drive, about 8 (?) miles outside of town. We will definitely return to any of these restaurants.

mln, thanks so much for the reply. I might have to try Cashtown Inn as well!

I have to tell you, I didn%26#39;t do a lunch in the Dobbin House tavern, but we ate dinner upstairs on a sat. night, this past june. It really wasn%26#39;t worth the time or money. I can%26#39;t say it was bad, but it was truthfully nothing special.. There must be something better there to eat. If i visited the area again, I would not, repeat, would not eat there again....

Good food is hard to find in Gettysburg. Mamma V%26#39;s is good the Pub better than average. Farnsworth House Tavern is above average, the diing room over priced. Never really liked Dobbin House. O%26#39;Roarkes better than average. Dunlaps has a very nice Breakfast. Best places are outside of town, The Ott House in Emittsburg Md (13 mi) Crazy Horse in Cross Creek (9 mi) Altland House in Altland (13 mi). I haven%26#39;t tried any of the new places out by the Courtyard and Wyndham.

Crazy Horse is in Cross Keys. The Altland House is in Abbottstown.

I think the Tavern in the basement of the Dobbin House is good and reasonable. The upstairs might be a bit overpriced but it%26#39;s a unique atmosphere and decent food. I don%26#39;t think you can come to Gettysburg without at least stopping in there.

I was only in the bedroom, and to be truthful, there was no atmosphere. The tables were crowded together, the first one they put me at, wobbled, I had to be moved. I cannot speak for the other rooms. I have eaten in other old taverns elsewhere, where the decor was much nicer. I dine in the Revere Tavern in Paradise Pa, all the time. It was also built in the 1700%26#39;s. The decor is lovely. At the Dobbin House, we found plain small wood tables, a candle on the table and nothing more.

Thanks Imalocal we have a Cross Creek and an Altlandburg near my home. I always get the two confused.

Stayed at Cashtown this weekend and loved it. Ate dinner one night and it was fabulous. Although a little pricey and also some %26#39;fancier%26#39; dishes, I%26#39;d check out the menu before taking a teenager to make sure their is something he would like. The Pub is a safe and good choice. They have a big variety and are resonably priced.

Have to agree with Crabby on the last post....Cashtown Inn is wonderful, but pricey, and if we had our children with us, we would definitely look at the menu. But, we will go back, the food and service were good.
