What are the best options for getting between these two cities? Amtrak looks a little pricey ($45 round trip).
Thanks!
Train/bus from NYC to Philly
Actually, $45 is quite decent for Amtrak, I have paid as much as $80 for acela, probably more. A note, there are a bunch of group discounts avail, such as AAA (10%)
Amtrak is easily the fastest and most direct route. You could also take NJT to Trenton, connect to the Riverlink, then Patco, but that%26#39;s a real pain.
Greyhound is also an option, but slow and not particularly comfortable. Don%26#39;t know that you would save that much, either. Only advantage to greyhound is it lets you off right in the main hotel area.
Are you coming fro the day? Overnight?
Train/bus from NYC to Philly
$45 is for each way on Amtrak.
Cheaper train alternative ~ NJT to Septa. Take NJ Transit to Trenton and switch to Septa. It will take 2- 2 1/2 hours depending on what train you get. Ticket prices also vary by trip. Roughly $25- $30 each way.
You can plan your route on NJtransit.com. Just choose New York Penn to Philadelphia 30th Street.
I always forget about the R7 from Trenton to Philly.
I agree that the SEPTA/NJ Transit option is a good compromise with oneself if you%26#39;re trying to save money yet have a relatively quick journey between NYC and Philly.
Although it%26#39;s less popular than the train, Greyhound is the cheapest option by far at $12 one way. If traffic is good, the trip is shorter than Septa/NJ Transit. Of course, traffic on the NJ Turnpike is often pretty bad, so it%26#39;s a gamble.
What about the Chinatown bus? Lots of choices, low fares!
my son (lives in manhattan) went by the Chinatown buses to Philly recently for a weekend - he said it only cost him $20.00 (return I assume) - he said it was a good run about 1 3/4hrs (maybe he was lucky).
$20 round trip... it%26#39;s a great deal!
