Hi
Planning a 50th wedding anniversary trip for one week in the fall. Planning to stay just 2 nights in the Scranton (maybe poconos) area. I%26#39;m planning day trips to Jim Thorpe, Honesdale, Hawley and drive on route 209 for the scenery. Any suggestions about hotels/ B%26amp;B%26#39;s??? Is it better to stay in Scranton or the Poconos---seems many of the hotels in the Poconos are not updated! Thanks for your help.

When we go back home, we stay at the Residence Inn in Dickson City, up by the mall (Viewmont Mall in Scranton). Ask for a fireplance room on the top floor. Very nice. I have not stayed at any of the place out in the Poconos, but now that they are bringing in the casinos, I imagine they will upgrade a lot of hotels out there, too. Good luck! And happy anniversary!

Well, Scranton is certainly at a crossroads.. 84 and 81 , etc. You could take a wonderful side trip to Cooperstown. Explore Nay Aug Park in Scranton, Montage Mt. , taking pix of the stadium....if you%26#39;re not too familiar with high views this area is great for them. Steamtown, walk around Lake Scranton.
For a nice upscale hotel we like the Marriott Courtyard on Montage Mt. Nice setting, beautiful patio with an elegant feel, hostess seating for breakfast so groups together don%26#39;t spread needlessly out over several tables and you can order less off the menu instead of the large buffet, althought that%26#39;s great too. Rooms are beautiful and serene, bed and linens wonderful. Staff always nice.
I am from the area and go back to visit often. I stay at the Hampton Inn ior Nicholas Village in Clarks Summit. Nicholas Village has an indoor pool and a great resturant. Hampton Inn has a breakfast buffet. Both are very up to date.
The Marriott is Great.
